No, no. Make that: beyond tired.
The little one is not sleeping through the night.
And *everyone* has an opinion on how to resolve the matter. There are a million books out there, touting a million different methods. Seems someone feels passionately about every one of them, that theirs is the right method. From CIO (cry it out) to attachment parenting, the believers are as zealous as the evangelical enthusiasts of my youth.
And then there's the supportive friends, who try to encourage that "every baby is different" and not to despair-- "you will find what's right for your baby." This does not make the matter simpler or easier. But instead makes me feel like I should be able to cull the gems from each method and stitch them together into the perfect little sleep suit for my little guy. No pressure there.
And somehow food became part of the equation. Relatives are convinced that we just need to start feeding him rice cereal and VOILA! He will certainly sleep through the night then.
After much desperate reading and searching, it looks like we are going to try the Ferber method of progressive waiting. I'm nervous about it. Feels like my first real mom test. Can I do what's right for him even when he protests (read: cries)? Is this actually "right" for him? I know the real task here is to get out of my head and follow my heart.
Yet another lesson from the OM....
